After having heard several times about the excellent hiking from the top of Sapphire Street, I got an excuse to check it out when Whitney organized a meetup.com group. The hike is quite enjoyable, and reminds me of North Fontana, only with a decent trail instead of brush. It was also nice to see the occasional other person on this route. The first part of the hike went from the parking area to a small river bridge, where we rested a bit. I took a sip of river water for fun and hopefully I don't get some weird disease. It looked okay. After the river, we hooked left and followed W Cucamonga Truck Trail, which really did not look like it could accomodate any kind of truck. Near the end of the group portion, there was a small river that required some stone stepping. It was amazing to see someone's footlong mini dog hop the rocks. The group was done at this point, but as it was still early I decided to keep going. I went about another mile in, to the intersection of W Cucamonga and Barrett Stoddard Truck Trail. Sadly, I had not reviewed a map beforehand, and was not sure which way to go. It appears north would have been the correct direction, eventually ending up at Mount Baldy Road.
